Wednesday, March 31, 2010 - 10:21 PM

LONDON - Since April 1, Sony will shut down functions of Operating Systems (OS) on the device PlayStation 3 (PS3). Thus, users can install the OS they want.

It seems that the steps taken by Sony is a precaution to stop video game piracy. This step is also a Sony initiative for improving the security device. Sony announced, the update will be released soon this week.

With the latest features users can choose the PS3 OS OS other than Sony, and so forth. However, this deactivation is only valid on the PS3 the old model, not including the latest model of the PS3 Slim.

As reported by the Telegraph, Wednesday (31/3/2010), the update came after leading U.S. hackers, Geohot or George Hotz run his PS3 using Linux OS variant. Geohot released the code and then claiming that he can outsmart the security system of the gaming devices.

Name Geohot previously also been flying as a teenager breaker Apple's iPhone. Now, because Geohot PS3 users can use the OS of their choice.

Yet it seemed, the news surrounding the release of the latest update was not greeted warmly by some PS3 users. According to them, steps taken by Sony would only punish those who use the feature legally.

Sony explained that the update is optional. However, users who do not want to install it is no longer able to access some features of the PS3, like online gaming network.

To that end, the Sony recommends that PS3 users will use another OS, and backing up data before installing the update.
